This medieval inspired portrait session somehow came together at exactly the right time.
Loren, the hairstylist who created the hair for this shoot, originally came to me with the idea. The funny part is that I had already mentioned doing a shoot like this to our model about a year earlier. I told her we could finally make it happen this year, and then Loren somehow found me with almost the exact idea I already had in mind.
As soon as she reached out, I knew exactly who I wanted to model for it. From there, everything started falling into place.
Bringing the Medieval Vision Together
The outfits, veil, swords, hair, and nails all worked together perfectly. Every person involved brought something important to the final vision, and Scott Springs Park gave us the wooded setting we needed to make everything feel even more dramatic.
Loren created the hair for the session, and KeeTheNailTexxch designed the nails to match the concept. Those details made the finished photographs feel like they belonged to the same world instead of feeling like separate pieces we simply put together.
This shoot reminded me how much can happen when the right group of creative people comes together and trusts the idea.

The Photograph That Looked Like a Painting

The veil ended up creating one of my favorite photographs from the entire session. The moment I took it, I literally screamed, “That looks like a painting!”
Apparently, I was not the only one who saw it because so many people have said the exact same thing after seeing the photograph. The movement of the veil, the lighting, the styling, and the forest behind her made everything come together in one frame.
That image has received so much attention, and people have shown this entire shoot so much love. It has honestly made me want to create even more sessions like this.
Letting My Creativity Run Wild
Creative portrait sessions give me the chance to take one idea and build an entire world around it. I love working with dramatic styling, unusual props, movement, and concepts that let everyone involved try something different.
This session gave me the freedom to let my creativity run wild, and I would love to photograph more fantasy, medieval, and completely out there ideas.
