This surfer inspired portrait session at Sand Key Park in Clearwater Florida was basically an excuse for all of us to get together, bring our cameras, and create something fun.
I spent the day shooting alongside @kynicolephotography, @kariclarkphotography, and @rainabella, and we leaned completely into the beachy surfer concept. We brought out a Wavestorm surfboard, played around with movement, different poses, and whatever ideas came to us while we were shooting.
This was such a fun day with the girlies, and honestly one of my favorite parts about styled shoots like this is getting to create without putting too many rules on ourselves.

Creating a Surfer Inspired Photoshoot at Sand Key Park
Sand Key Park was such a good location for this concept because we had the open beach, water, sand, and plenty of room to move around and experiment.
For this shoot, I wanted the photos to feel fun and slightly editorial while still keeping that relaxed surfer energy. The Wavestorm surfboard ended up becoming such a big part of the session because it gave us something to actually interact with instead of just standing on the beach trying to figure out what to do next.
I love using props when they actually make sense for the concept. Something as simple as a surfboard can completely change the way someone moves and give us so many more options for photos.
Why I Love Creative Portrait Sessions
Styled shoots give me room to experiment with things I might not normally try during a regular session.
Different angles. Different movement. Weird crops. Getting super close. Pulling way back. Trying something just because I think it might look cool.
And I think that freedom is what keeps photography exciting for me.
Every creative shoot teaches me something I can bring into my couples sessions, portraits, and even weddings later.

If you have an idea for a creative portrait session in Clearwater, Ocala, or anywhere around Central Florida, I would LOVE to hear it. Your session does not have to look like everybody else’s.

Planning a Beach Portrait Session in Clearwater Florida
Sand Key Park is such a fun option if you want beach photos around Clearwater without the session feeling overly complicated. The park has a wide sandy beach along with boardwalks and other natural areas, which gives you more variety than just standing directly along the shoreline the entire time.
Whether you want something surfer inspired, editorial, playful, or just a beach session that feels a little more like you, there is so much room to make the location your own.
And I already know I want to do more shoots like this.
